Vic Country boys defeat Vic Metro

VICTORIA Country’s boys team has concluded its Under-18 Boys Championship campaign with a win against cross-state rivals Victoria Metro.
The side’s second consecutive win makes it two from four for the tournament, in a game in which Vic Country led at each break to cruise to a 14.10 (94) to 9.10 (64) victory at RSEA Park on Sunday.
The Geelong Falcons were represented again by Josh Lindsay (Newtown & Chilwell), Jesse Mellor (Geelong West), Hugo Mikunda (Bell Park) and Jack Pickett (Torquay), who all made solid contributions to the win.
Lindsay finished off a consistent Championships with 14 disposals and three marks across half back.
Mellor kicked 1.1 from nine disposals, meaning the Geelong NGA prospect scored a goal in each of his four games.
Mikunda kicked two goals and gathered 22 disposals in a strong performance that also included five marks.
In his second match of the tournament, Pickett kicked two goals from his three disposals.
For Victoria Metro, midfielder Jack Dalton collected 27 disposals and 10 tackles, while Adam Sweid and Ollie Greeves had 24 touches each.
Both Country and Metro finished the tournament with two wins and two losses. South Australia won the Championship, having gone undefeated.
Six Falcons are on Victoria Country’s Under-18 list, with Lindsay, Mellor, Mikunda and Pickett joined by Rilley Aquilina (St Josephs), Jett Elek (Lara) and Ben Rongdit (Colac), as well as Fletcher Pulleine (St Josephs) in the train-on squad.
The Falcons are presently 5-7 in this year’s Coates Talent League season, with four rounds to play.
