THE state’s best shortboard surfers will descend on Bells Beach/Djarrak next month to begin the 2024/25 Victorian Open Series.

More than 40 surfers are slated to battle it out on September 14 at the first stop of the tri-event series.

Competitors will then head to the Mornington Peninsula on February 15, before state champions are crowned on Phillip Island on March 22.

The Victorian Open Series is the key pathway into the Rip Curl Pro Victorian Trials, giving one male and one female Victorian a wildcard spot into the Rip Curl Pro main event.

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said entries were now open for all three events.

“As the lead in events to the Rip Curl Pro Trials, the Victorian Open Series is an important element to our development pathway as well as giving juniors a chance to hone their skills against our more experienced competitors.

“The list of surfers who have gone on to the Championship Tour and Qualifying Series and have gone through the Victorian Open Series is incredible.

“It is a great stepping stone for surfers to progress and make it to the next level.”
