Winter sets in and the groms still perform
AFTER holding off all of April, winter has finally set in for 2018 but that did not stop the groms in last weekend’s Junior aggregate 4. The groms were greeted to a day of fun three-foot wintery waves at Jan Juc. The sun did, however, poke its head out between the clouds to provide some relief from the morning chill.
Being the fourth aggregate of the year and heading into winter, it was awesome to see an amazing turnout of 70 competitors ranging from U8s through to U14s and we had some new and familiar faces on the podium.
Liam Thomson and Jarvis Barrow took out the U8s and U10s, respectively. Sara Hickson continued her impressive progression and came out on top of the under 12 girls final with Leroy Filer being crowned champ of the under 12 boys
with dynamic surfing all day. Willis Droomer was dominant as always and won the under 14 boys convincingly and Cielle Bouvier won the under 14 girls to round out the day.
Saturday’s junior competition was in fact the biggest day in TBC’s junior aggregate history. It’s fantastic to welcome so many members and it’s interesting to note that more than a third of our competitors are from Under 10’s. This positions the Torquay Boardriders club with the largest junior membership in the whole of Australia.
TBC are very fortunate to be surrounded by many long-standing sponsors. We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support. It allows us to focus on our junior development and prioritise our position as number one club in Victoria.
This weekend sees the senior aggregate 3 fire up. After poor conditions meant a cancellation two weekends ago, the seniors are fired up for a good weekend of waves on Saturday.
Be sure to come down at Jan Juc beach on the weekend to catch all the action.
