A BASKETBALL showcase is on its way to the Surf Coast catering to players over 35 years of age with hundreds expected to attend.

Surfcoast Basketball Association president Leon Sayers said the idea to host the SBA’s 2024 Masters Basketball Tournament in partnership with Myths & Legends Australia and Wildcats Basketball Club came out of a similar tournament the association assisted with last year.

“We were asked to assist with a similar tournament last year when the relevant organisations could not meet the alignments needed at the Geelong Sports Hub, so we helped out by hosting the event on late notice

“We had a women’s competition and two men’s divisions, and it was a really successful event overall.

“Now we’re running it again and we see it becoming an annual event as it times up well with the warmer weather and the lack of competitions running.

“The main aim will be attracting teams from outside the Surf Coast.”

More than 200 players are expected to attend the tournament running at Wurdi Baierr Stadium in Torquay from February 3 to 4.

Mr Sayers said entries for players will close on January 28. Players can either submit a team or submit themselves as individuals and will be allocated a team by emailing [email protected] and attaining the relevant links.

“The camaraderie is definitely one of the major benefits to the tournament. While it still will be competitive, there’s a welcoming atmosphere that came with this event from last year.

“At the end of the day, it’s a great chance to have a bit of fun, have a good experience, and play some good quality basketball.”

All skills are welcomed.
