Jan Juc surfer Tully Wylie has secured a runner-up finish at the Phillip Island Pro QS4000, moving him up to 12th position on the Australia/Oceania rankings.

The 25-year-old made it onto the podium for a second straight year, showcasing his prowess in the waves of Phillip Island.

More than 150 of the country’s top surfers competed across seven days at Cape Woolamai Beach.

Crucial ranking points were on the line in pursuit of the last World Surf League Challenger Series positions for the season.

Wylie went into the finals in strong form, having been one of the standouts in the early rounds of competition.

He scored a narrow win over Sydney’s Jarvis Earle in the quarter finals and followed it with a win over Queenslander Marlon Harrison in a wave-starved semi-final.

Wylie went into the event final with plenty of confidence, having competed at Philip Island since he was a child.

The Sunshine Coast’s Alister Reginato got the ball rolling early, scoring two 5-point rides to put Wylie in a soft combination.

Meanwhile, Wylie stayed patient and eventually earned the highest number of the heat – a 7-point ride for some strong backhand surfing.

Having only posted a 2-point ride beforehand, Wylie was left needing 3.75 points to take the lead, but was unable to find the wave in the remaining time.

Wylie’s sparring partner Xavier Huxtable’s quarter-final result was enough for him to lock in a Challenger Series spot.

The 2026 season will be his second year on the world tour, inching him closer to his dream of making the elite

Championship Tour.

Wylie will have to secure a strong result at the Newcastle Surfest if he is to continue his Challenger Series journey.
