MADISON Ogilvie
When Madison Ogilvie moved to Torquay with her young family 18-months ago, she knew she could have a positive impact on the community.
It’s not an easy job working in family law, supporting clients through difficult and often complex times, but Madison takes it in her stride knowing her work helps keep people safe.
Helping local clients navigate separation, which includes division of property and safe parenting arrangements, is at the core of her work at Coulter Legal.
“It is important work and that’s how I do what I do every day,” Madison said.
“People always ask me how I do it and whether I take it on emotionally. There’s always certain cases that take their toll, but it feels like really important work and that’s why I get so much energy out of it; I feel like I am helping people.”
Madison said family matters can be complex and there is no one correct approach. Each client has their own goals and requirements, so constant adjustment and learning on her part is essential.
“There’s no cookie cutter way to deal with a client or to deal with a client’s circumstances, which gives me energy because I need to adapt,” Madison said.
“I need to make sure that they’re cared for. There’s learning to be had at every single client because you can’t just apply one principle to the next.”
Meeting clients during difficult times in their lives can be a delicate experience.

To ensure potential clients feel safe and well connected to their lawyers, Coulter Legal offers a free 30-minute consultation.
It’s an important step in developing relationships.
“What we offer at Coulter Legal is a 30-minute free consultation so clients can get a feel for me and get a feel for whether I would be the right to fit for them. Then from there we give them a cost agreement and give them a bit of a plan forward about how to proceed,” Madison said.
“If you’re not comfortable and trust your representation, you’re not going to get out of it what you need, so my first step is to make clients feel comfortable.”
A young mother herself, Madison has a keen interest in keeping families and children in Torquay safe.
She is ready and willing to assist in urgent parenting situations and property arrangements where her clients require advice, and perhaps court intervention, quickly.
Madison looks forward to continuing her work with the local community and continuing to be immersed in all that Torquay has to offer.
She hopes people needing her expertise can feel reassured knowing there is someone on their doorstep ready and willing to help.
