Teaching new skills and growing confidence

March 3, 2022 BY

Surf Coast Gymnastics founder Cayley, centre, has created a welcoming space to teach children gymnastics and new skills in a positive environment.

AFTER a lot of hard work and years of planning Torquay finally has a locally owned and operated Surf Coast Gymnastics.

Surf Coast Gymnastics was officially opened in Torquay in October 2021 by director and founder Cayley Reeves.

It has always been a dream of Cayley’s to bring gymnastics to the Surf Coast.

Her vision was to create an amazing space to give all mini Surf Coast members an intimate experience to learn new skills, build fundamentals and grow confidence as little gymnasts in a positive, supportive and fun environment.

A dream and vision that has well and truly been brought to life at the Boneyards Aveunue, Torquay, gymnastics club.

Cayley began as a gymnast at the age of four and, after completing her National level 7, she retired from competitive gymnastics at 16.

During this time she began assistant coaching at her local gymnastics club “BUGS” and found a love of helping children learn new skills and watching them develop and grow.

She now has over 15 years’ experience as a coach and shares her knowledge and experience to her own SCG coaches.

“We have an amazing team of local accredited coaches,” Cayley said.

“I am so lucky to have an incredible team with various experience in all forms of gymnastics who are always doing their best to help our members learn new skills and grow confidence through gymnastics.”

The Surf Coast Gymnastics members are in safe hands with Cayley being a qualified nurse for over 10 years, most recently working at The Epworth since its opening in 2016.

“I love being a nurse and that will never change – I am now just building on my passion for helping people in a different venture,” she said.

“Seeing all those smiling faces each week makes me love what I do.”

Surf Coast Gymnastics offers something for all ages; KinderGym classes for ages 0-5 years, recreational classes for ages 5-plus as well as birthday parties and holiday program sessions.

The space is a fun, positive and supportive environment with children surrounded by positive and motivational quotes.

“We have a real emphasis on self love and positivity,” Cayley said.

“It’s so important for children to feel safe in our space and have support for each other.”

Since opening in October 2021 Cayley said they had been overwhelmed with an incredible response from the Surf Coast community.

“We couldn’t be prouder or more grateful to all our wonderful members,” she said.

Cayley, who moved to Torquay with her husband Phil in 2012 and welcomed their son Koa in 2018, has a strong passion and love for the Surf Coast.

“I love how much as a community we support each other and do our best to support local businesses.

“It really is such a beautiful place to live – I feel really blessed to be a part of the Surf Coast community,” she said.
