mecwacare's Healthy Ageing Hub in Ballan provides a central point where older people can access support, information and services tailored to their needs.

GROWING older in a rural community comes with unique challenges, but mecwacare’s Healthy Ageing Hub in Ballan is here to help local seniors thrive.

Located at mecwacare’s Ballan Health and Care Services facility in the heart of town, the hub offers a comprehensive approach to healthy ageing, with a particular focus on older residents and the farming community.

“We understand that navigating aged care services can be overwhelming,” practice manager Kylie Fenwick said. “Our hub provides a central point where older people can access support, information and services tailored to their needs.”

The Healthy Ageing service encompasses support for physical and psychological wellbeing, as well as community information.

Local resident Louise Mayall, a registered nurse with regional and farming experience, leads the service. She runs regular free workshops throughout the year, bringing invaluable understanding of the specific needs of rural community members.

The facility also includes a fully bulk-billing GP clinic, allied health services, telehealth and pathology, along with an onsite pool and gym for rehabilitation and general fitness.

Dedicated support is available to help community members navigate My Aged Care, understand their options and access the services they need.

What’s on in February and March

Starting Monday 2 February, mecwacare will run an eight-week wellness program at Ballan Neighbourhood House, led by a local dietician and social worker.

Participants will learn about healthy eating, take part in relaxation activities and enjoy mindfulness exercises, deep breathing and guided meditation.

The program also provides a chance to slow down, connect with others in the community and focus on self-care. To join the program or find out more, call the team on 03 5366 7878.

Whether you’re seeking health services, fitness support or guidance on aged care options, mecwacare’s friendly team is ready to help you maintain independence and a high quality of life.
