Artwork to enliven Ballan Station
LOCAL artists are being invited to submit expressions of interest to have their work displayed at Ballan Station.
The call-out is part of a collaboration between local government, Metro Trains, Yarra Trams, V/Line and VicTrack to bring life to transport hubs through the installation of local art.
Expressions of interest are open to artists based in the Moorabool Shire and the artwork should reflect Ballan and surrounding areas.
Lou Callow, local artist and member of Wombat Regional Arts Network, said it is important to foster creativity in the community through initiatives like this.
“It’s not just about artists, it’s about uplifting people,” she said. “If you walk up the street and you see something that makes you feel happy or smile, which for us is what community arts is about, you feel like you’re part of something.”
The successful proposal will have broad appeal and resonate with both a local and visiting audience.
The finished piece will be digitally reproduced on vinyl wraps and displayed on concrete pillars.
“Anything that helps people feel good, is really important,” said Callow. “And sometimes artwork’s not always straight forward, it can raise questions and make you think.”
Mayor Cr Ally Munari urged the community to get involved.
“We encourage local artists and photographers to apply for this expression of interest for the opportunity to have their art showcased at Ballan Railway Station,” she said.
“This is an exciting partnership… that will reflect the passion and creativity of our local artists and hopefully inspire passers-by.”
Applications can be made on the Moorabool Shire website and close 6 September 2024.
