THE Moonlite Theatre Company is preparing to bring a rollicking radio play to life, complete with old-school sound effects, at the Lerderderg Library in Bacchus Marsh next Saturday 4 July.
Anyone who catches the group’s free radio play take on Casablanca will also have the chance to participate and to be part of an improvisation workshop that will be on offer.
The community theatre group is presenting the radio play reading and the improvision workshop from 10am to 12pm as part of the library’s ongoing BacchChat series of events and activities.
Vice president of the Moonlite Theatre community group, Tim Hawthorne said everyone is welcome at the family-friendly event and may choose to participate or just sit back and be entertained.
Several years back the group had staged Basaclanca, its own home-grown take on the classic Casablanca.
“It is a take on the original Casablanca play and we have performed it previously a couple of years ago,” Hawthorne said.
“We thought it would be an interesting little play that the audience may know. It was originally styled as a radio play.”
The BacchChat event will also offer a good opportunity for people to learn more about the Moonlite Theatre Group that meets on the fourth Saturday of the month at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Hall.
“For anyone thinking of doing some acting it’s a good way to dip their toes into the arts and see if it’s something they want to be involved in,” Hawthorne said.
“We have about 20 members now and we are always looking for new members.”
Looking ahead, auditions will be held for roles in the group’s upcoming full-length comedy production, The Dating Game, written by a local playwright, and set to be staged in October this year.
The Moonlite Theatre group is part of the Victorian Drama League and cast and technical crew who get involved in staging The Dating Game may be in contention to take out awards.
