BALLAN Neighbourhood House will host a uniquely intimate concert on Wednesday 5 March as part of the Festival of Small Halls Autumn Tour 2025, in collaboration with the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
Canada-based English folk musician and songwriter Lucy Farrell headlines the show with world travelling roots music artists Hat Fitz and Cara, as well as local emerging indie pop/folk artist Paper_Cranes in support.
The festival has a policy of choosing acts for the tour not only because of their music, but because they have the ability to connect with people, and an interest in visiting places off the beaten track.
Festival producer Isobel Bartlett said bringing artists with such qualities to country towns “makes so much sense”.
“It’s so important that the folks in the regions value music and the arts just as much as people in the city,” she said.
“It can be so restrictive when the only opportunities you get is to drive four or five hours to a major centre – that costs a lot, it’s a big expense.
“Whereas, if there’s a pretty cheap show down the road in the hall, then it can be a great opportunity.
“These kinds of shows are so beautiful in so many different aspects, bringing people together to experience something new.”
