Finding passion and opportunity at The Gordon

The practical skill she's learnt have made her feel prepared to enter the work force.

HAJRA Bibi’s desire to care for people and connect with the community was born at The Gordon, Victoria’s largest regional stand-alone Tafe, offering nursing programs in Werribee and Geelong.

Ms Bibi, an international student from Pakistan, found a new home for her passion and skills when she discovered the Australian education and healthcare system.

“I chose to study nursing because I’m passionate about helping others and have a strong desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives,” she said.

Her choice to study in Australia was driven by her desire to immerse herself in a new environment, enhance her language skills and delve into the field of nursing.

Ms Bibi said studying in regional Victoria offer a high quality of life, with access to natural landscapes, parks and beaches.

“It’s a very friendly, welcoming and supportive community with lots of cultural and recreational activities to engage in when I’m not studying.”

Ms Bibi has been impressed by the enriching experiences of studying at TAFE and the practical approach of her the nursing program, with her favourite parts including gaining practical skills, industry-specific knowledge and valuable hands-on experience.

The practical skills she’s learnt such as lab classes and real-life clinical placements at Barwon Health and a GP clinic have made her feel prepared to enter the workforce.

“The quality of the nursing program, support from my teachers, and opportunities for clinical placements are helping me to grow into a successful career,” she said.

“My course is really amazing. The lab classes and practical work gives me confidence and enthusiasm – it makes me feel ready to work.”

Ms Bibi hopes to speacialise in theatre nursing as she progresses in her career.

Ms Bibi has a goal of specialising in theatre nursing, her journey illustrates the profound impact a supportive educational environment can have on global students.

“I highly recommend every student to study at The Gordon – especially international students.

“The Gordon staff are very humble, nice, helpful and just wonderful, so it makes my course very easy.”
