Rocking and rolling for community radio
A 1950s Rock and Roll fundraiser will be held for Bacchus Marsh’s community radio station Apple 98.5 FM on Saturday 4 July at the Bacchus Marsh Town Hall.
The volunteer-run station needs to raise $25,000 by 5 July or face going off air permanently after 40 years of broadcasting local content to the greater western region.
The station, known as The Voice of Moorabool, has been a training ground for up-and-coming DJs, technicians and voiceover artists.
It features many homegrown radio shows, local sports, festivals and community events.
Station president Karellyn Dangar said the station is a vital community service which has uplifted listeners through the past 40 years.
If enough funds are raised, it will enable the station to attract more volunteers and to keep broadcasting sustainably.
Volunteers have so far raised $5,000.
“We are very grateful for the support from everyone,” Dangar said.
“We have been able to clear all debts, and we are hopeful we can raise more money to help us continue.
“As well as the dance, this weekend we will be holding a barbecue at Darley Market.
“We will be at the Dundas Steet end between 9am and 1pm.
“I would like to thank the CFA and The Stockman’s Table for all their help.”
Supporters have also opened a GoFundMe page.

The dance will be held from 1pm to 6pm.
Prepaid entry is $25 or $30 at the door, cash only. For tickets contact Karellyn Dangar on 0497 533 882.
