Preschool prepares for upgrade

A BACCHUS Marsh kindergarten is set to receive major improvements to be ready for 2029.

Young Street Preschool will be upgraded with a $1.2 million commitment from Moorabool Shire Council and $750,000 in state government funding through the Building Blocks Improvement Early Learning Facility Upgrade stream.

The works will include such changes as a reconfigured layout, improved building access, an additional meeting room and overall modernised facilities.

“We’re very excited to undertake this project and create a wonderful space for our kinder children coming through in the next few years,” Moorabool Shire mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said.

The preschool will be closed during the 2028 kindergarten year for the works to be completed safely and efficiently.

To support families impacted by the temporary closure, West Maddingley and Darley kindergartens have available capacity and will be able to accommodate additional children that year.

All families who have accepted a three-year-old place for 2027 have been notified by email and provided the option to change their preferred kindergarten should they choose to do so.

Council officers plan to work closely with the kindergarten provider to keep families informed early and support them with alternative kindergarten options in this time.

The upgraded facility once complete will aim to offer improved learning spaces and increase kindergarten places.

Comments were sought from Young Street Preschool staff, but they were unable to respond before print deadline.
