BALLINA Shire Council is developing a master plan with future infrastructure and construction options considered for Spoonbill Reserve at Skennars Head.

Community consultation is being called on to help shape the future of the two-hectare reserve, which features a large open space between Redford Drive and Seaside Avenue.

People will be able to draw their own designs or post photos of finished works at parks, playgrounds and other spaces in and outside the region.

Council’s landscape architect Sheryn Da-Re said the master plan will provide a medium to long-term vision for the site with a small amount of funding already allocated to the project.

“The site is quite a large open area with an old pine tree and fig tree the only real features,” she said.

“The community might like to keep the embellishments simple by just adding some picnic shelters and barbecue facilities, or they might like to see a variety of other active recreation additions such as sports courts or exercise equipment.

“We’re asking residents to upload photos as examples of what they like, or kids might even want to share a drawing.”

Council hosted drop-in sessions at the reserve and at Lennox Head this week where the community were able to ask questions and share ideas in person.

People can still contribute online by uploading drawings and photos in the Ideas board at yoursayballina.com.au/spoonbill-reserve for more information.

The more practical ideas will help council seek additional funding for future construction of works outlined in the master plan.

Submissions remain open until Monday, November 17
