THE Men’s Table is looking to establish a new group at Ballina, with the national support group to focus on issues around social isolation and the need for peer support.

The Ballina Men’s Table introduction entree will be held at Cherry Street Sports Club on Wednesday 19 August.

It allows men the opportunity to experience what the organisation is about in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The Men’s Table is a non-profit community group that provides a space for men to openly share challenges and success within a trusted group of peers.

It aims to move beyond traditional pub talk to create genuine connection, belonging and community.

Regional host Wayne Krueger said groups were already established at Lismore with the organisation looking to extend its reach.

“It’s all about forming connections and having a support network,” Krueger said.

“The table creates a sense of belonging, community, peer support and camaraderie that is lacking for many men, even for some who already have a group of mates.”

The Men’s Table began in 2011 with just 12 men and has since grown into a national charity with more than 200 groups across Australia.

Each group, known as a Table, consists of around eight to 12 local men who meet monthly over dinner.

The group develops its own personality while following the core principles of openness, respect and confidentiality.

The Ballina entree event is designed as a no-obligation introduction for men interested in learning more about joining or establishing a local table.

The evening will provide an opportunity to meet other local men, hear stories from existing members, learn how tables operate and ask questions before deciding whether the group is the right fit.

Participants will also gain an understanding of the key elements of a men’s table, including checking in with each other, listening without trying to fix problems, and creating a safe environment built on trust.
