Extreme cowboy competition unique to Alstonville Show
EXTREME cowboy riding, a monster truck show and motorbike stunts will headline this year’s Alstonville Show.
The three-day event starts Friday, October 24 and is run by the Alstonville Agricultural Society.
It will feature a range of family entertainment including dog trials, cattle shows and a full pavilion of stalls.
The extreme cowboy competition is the only event of its kind run locally this year, with an obstacle course set up to challenge riders and horses.
It is a test of horsemanship and open to riders of all levels.
“Our show is a proud celebration of rural traditions, local talent and the spirit of our community,” Alstonville Agricultural Society president Merv McDonald said.
“This year’s show offers something for everyone, from outstanding livestock and produce exhibits to creative displays, demonstrations and plenty of family entertainment.”
It is the only agricultural show of its kind in the Ballina Shire and has a history dating back to 1890.
Fruit and vegetables, horticulture, cut flowers, cookery, arts and crafts, and school exhibits are all featured.
The poultry section has been popular with junior farmers who raise chicks as a hobby.
Classes include soft and hard feather and bantam poultry, as well as waterfowl.
Sideshow alley is back with a variety of rides and treats to suit adults and children.
The main ring will be a hive of activity on Saturday night with feature events from 4.30pm, finishing with a fireworks spectacular at 8.15pm.
There will be additional horse ring events on the final day, with free entry for all patrons.
