A free school holiday skateboarding clinic will give young women and girls the chance to learn from leading coach Sam James as part of the Momentum All Girls event at Lismore Skatepark.
Set to be held on Saturday 4 July, the clinic is open to female skateboarders aged up to 25 and will cater to all abilities, from first-time riders through to those refining skills or preparing for competition.
Momentum is a two-day festival showcasing some of Australia’s top female skateboarders through street and bowl competitions, alongside live music, food, prizes and family-friendly entertainment.
Event organiser Christopher Winn from the Mid North Coast Skate Club said the festival aimed to grow participation among women and girls in skateboarding.
“Celebrating women and girls in sport is at the heart of Momentum, creating stronger communities and healthier cultures,” he said.
“When participation grows, so too does confidence, connection and opportunity, not just in the skatepark, but in life beyond sport.”
The event aims to build confidence, skills and participation among women and girls ahead of the sport’s expected growth in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic Games.
It follows the success of the Lismore Rumble on the River earlier this year, a nationally recognised Skate Australia pathway event that attracted 150 competitors.

Lismore mayor Steve Krieg said Rumble on the River had proven the city’s capability to host major events.
“Rumble on the River showed Lismore could deliver an elite-level event of national significance, demonstrating exactly what this skatepark is capable of,” he said.
“Momentum is the next step. It is about empowerment, participation and making sure the benefits flow back to our local skaters, especially young women and girls who are building their confidence and skills in the sport.
“I am especially encouraged to see more young women and girls getting involved, backing themselves and making the space their own.”
The mentoring and participation component of Momentum is supported by the NSW government through the Office for Youth Holiday Break program.
