LISMORE Speedway is set to host the third running of the Bruce Maxwell Memorial Classic for V8 Dirt Modifieds over two nights of Easter racing at the showground, on April 4–5.
The memorial race has quickly become a signature event on the calendar, attracting state and national champions.
Australian champion Kevin Britten leads a strong entry list, joined by local favourite Mark Robinson.
Maxwell died in 2023 after a racing career which spanned decades, including commentary work at the Lismore Speedway.
He was also known for his charity work with Variety Club of Australia and its annual Bash event, while running the Byron Bay Short Stop petrol station.
Lismore Speedway promoter Mick Corbett said the Easter double-header is shaping up to be one of the biggest events of the year.
“It’s quickly become a really popular race, and our next two events are looking like the biggest events of the year,” he said.
“We’ve got a good lineup, and all the usual contenders will be in the mix.”
The crowd can also look forward to a full support program featuring wingless sprints, RSA Sedans, SSA production sedans, and junior sedans.
Corbett highlighted the strength of the local racing community as a key drawcard.

“Most of the good, modified drivers live within an hour and a half of Lismore,” he said.
“Some of the best in the country are locals, which helps get the crowd in because people don’t want to travel, they want to do something in town.”
Corbett and his wife Cindy have had a tough start in their first year running the Lismore track.
There have been multiple washouts while they juggle commitments looking after Grafton Speedway.
“You need a bit of luck, and hopefully the worst of the weather is behind us,” Mick said.
“We’ve got a good feel for what to expect and we’re determined to deliver that family entertainment that’s cheaper than you can get anywhere else.”
The Easter program is followed by the Super Sedan GP on Saturday, 18 April and the season finale Dirt Stock Nationals on May 30.
Tickets for all events are available at lismorespeedway.com.au.
