SIX-time national champion Kevin Britten will return to Lismore Speedway for one of the season’s premier events in the Mr Modified series.
Britten will be part of a strong field when the annual event is held on Friday, December 26.
It is the second round of the series and one of the biggest sporting events in the region during the holiday period.
Drivers David Clark, Chris Corbett, Mark Robinson, Scott Canon and Andrew Pezzutti are regularly among the contenders.
Clark and Corbett finished behind Britten in the national championship at Warrnambool earlier this year.
“Dirt modifieds are our bread and butter, these are the events that attract the big names,” speedway promoter Mick Corbett said.
“Anyone who’s anyone usually turns up for this one, Kevin has raced a lot at Grafton and Lismore over the years.
“He’s always hard to beat, Kurt Wilson has also stepped into the division this year and you have Josh Rose and a heap of other guys who go well.” Britten won the Bruce Maxwell Classic at Lismore earlier this year and is expected to face a challenge from local driver Mitch Randall.
Randall overcame Britten to win his first Australian title in 2023.
The meeting will be the fourth event on the Lismore Speedway calendar since Cindy and Mick Corbett took over operations this season.
They also run Grafton Speedway, with a combined calendar of 25 events between the two venues.
“We’re speedway people, so we weren’t too daunted by it,” Mick Corbett said. “We just want to put on the best shows we can, and the top drivers are always really good about where they go.”
The Boxing Day event will also feature wingless sprints, RSA stockers, SSA production sedans and junior sedans.
V8s will return to Lismore for the Modified Mayhem event on Saturday, January 10, while the Bruce Maxwell Classic will be held over the Easter long weekend. Tickets can be purchased at lismorespeedway.com.au.
