LISMORE speedway driver Mark Robinson is looking to add to his family history when he competes for a fifth national crown at the Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship in Toowoomba.
The two-night event on 2-3 May comes after he won his fifth Queensland title at Kingaroy Speedway on 18, April.
At 47, Robinson has been a force in speedway racing for more than 25 years, with a record which has him among the greats of the V8 Dirt Modified scene.
He etched his name into the record books in 2022 when he claimed a fourth Australian title, equalling the championship tally of his father, Steve.
The milestone made them the first father-son duo to each win four Australian titles in a major speedway category.
His latest Queensland success was also significant, marking his first state title since 2018.
“It certainly doesn’t get any easier the older you get in this racing game, but to win another Queensland title is proof that I can still do it,” Robinson said.

“My team gave me a great car from the beginning of the night through to the end, so it was very satisfying to be able to reward them, along with all of the team’s sponsors and supporters, with the best possible result.”
Robinson’s national success stretches back two decades, having claimed his first Australian title in 2005 before adding back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.
He heads into the national title race full of confidence and eager to add a fifth crown to his collection.
“I’m feeling really good heading into the Australian Championship, and I’d love nothing more than to score a fifth win,” he said.
“An Australian Championship weekend is all about qualifying well which gives you a good starting spot for the feature race, and after that, it all comes down to being able to maximise your position with solid pace and of course a bit of luck goes a long way, too.”
Meanwhile, Lismore Speedway is already preparing its calendar for next season, with Robinson and the V8 Dirt Modifieds set to headline the Lord Mayor’s Cup on Saturday, 7 November.
