THE Surf Coast is set for a major basketball spectacle this June, with NBA high-flyer Mac McClung heading to Torquay.
The Surfcoast Basketball Association will host the three-time NBA dunk contest champion on 29 June for what is shaping as one of the biggest events in the organisation’s history.
McClung has built a global reputation as one of basketball’s most electrifying athletes, famed for his explosive vertical leap and viral highlight-reel dunks.
The 27-year-old claimed his third straight NBA dunk contest title earlier this year during the league’s all-star weekend.

McClung is also a two-time NBA G League MVP and scoring champion and is currently on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls and their G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls.
As part of the Torquay visit, McClung will run two limited-capacity skills sessions for junior players in the under-12 to under-14 and under-16 to under-18 age groups.
An all-ages showcase event is also expected to be announced by the Surfcoast Basketball Association in coming weeks.
The event is likely to provide a major showcase for the newly unveiled retractable grandstand at Wurdi Baierr Stadium, which can seat up to 540 spectators.
Further details about the event are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
