IN a definite keeper for the diaries of local music lovers, World Record Store Day is poised to drop at Kank Wolverang Records, Saturday 18 April.

The day gets started from 10.30am with a line-up of live artists playing out the front of the shop from 11am to 4pm, and a record fair with multiple stall holders in the Kank Wolverang gallery space out back.

Alongside the music, there’ll also be a new group art exhibition, aptly entitled Silence – Roar, on the surrounding gallery walls to check out along with the store’s inhouse coffee and clever nibbles that come with names like the Fleetwood Macaroon.

Record Store Day is a global annual celebration held on the third Saturday of April to support independent record stores.

It often features limited-edition vinyl, CD, and cassette releases or live performances, fostering community among music fans, artists, and independent shop owners.

“This will be our third Record Store Day,” said Kank Wolverang’s Hap Hayward who opened the store on Main Road in Bakery Hill together with his buddy Dan Kalken who’s been a mate since the two were in a band in high school.

These days Hayward’s daughter Nella Hayward also helps in the shop and assists with record selection ensuring a multi-generational mix.

“World Record Day is a great community day and we do it our way,” Hayward said.

“When we started this store people were wording us up on it and it’s been growing throughout the years because vinyl and records have been being reappreciated over the past few years.”

Hayward said that for World Record Store Day they’re aiming to create “a bit of a street party vibe” with the list of acts to include: 11am Alex MacPherson, 12pm Aaliyah Duo, 1pm Hemlock Wilde, 2pm Symon D and the Southern Lore and 3pm Brett Dunbar.

Kank Wolverang Records is at 30 Main Rd, Bakery Hill.
