A POPULAR live kids’ band made up of Melbourne sisters Byll and Beth Stephen is bound for Ballarat as part of its regional Brain Fart tour.
Teeny Tiny Stevies, born from the siblings’ indie-folk project The Little Stevies, achieved almost instant success when it was formed just over 10 years ago, going on to win the best children’s album award at the 2021 ARIAs.
The duo has also produced three animated music video series for ABC Kids television.
Recently returned from the regional New South Wales leg of the tour, multi-instrumentalist Byll Stephen said the shows so far had been incredible.
“I love regional touring,” she said.
“It’s very comforting, because growing up we didn’t go overseas for holidays or interstate on planes, we were more of a driving family.
“We used to go to Mallacoota, which was seven hours from Melbourne.
“Going from town to town, finding all the local bakeries along the way and good shops and stuff, that feels very natural and lovely to me.”
She said the concert is primed to help children and their parents create some ‘core memories’ together.
“I think what Teeny Tiny Stevies do somehow, and I love this because it’s all happened naturally – it’s really that co-viewing experience between mums and dads and kids together, and that’s awesome,” she said.
“People experience music differently – there’ll be some kids down the front creating a mosh pit and then other kids will sit up the back and watch quietly, maybe even with their hands over their ears.
“But, then they won’t stop talking about it when they get home, so everybody’s more than welcome to experience the show any way they want.”
The Teeny Tiny Stevies Brain Fart Tour visits the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute on Saturday 9 May.
