THE annual Ballarat Careers Expo is on later this month, providing an opportunity to directly source information from university, TAFE and independent tertiary representatives about potential career pathways.

Anyone of any age is welcome to feed their employment curiosities. While families of Year 9 to 12 students are usually the main attendees, it’s also ideal for adult job seekers and those looking for information on further study.

Organising Committee Member and Ballarat Grammar’s Head of Careers, Karin Miller said the event is in its 24th year, with something that sets it apart from other expos of its kind.

“We have an A to Z list of job reps in the program, and people in these roles are available to chat to anyone interested in learning what their job might involve day to day, maybe how they got there and what sort of person might suit this career,” she said.

“The list of organisations and occupations runs from accountant to zookeeper, with over 200 exhibitors in between. Several interstate universities, along with local and other Victorian universities will provide information on courses, scholarships and accommodation options.

“As part of Commerce Ballarat’s B31 program, we will have a focus on careers in hospitality this year. Hospitality can be so much more than a part-time or casual job.”

The committee is looking forward to the night that will inform and excite young people about the range of post-secondary educational options.

“Secondary students are currently choosing subjects for next year, so the night can assist in guiding their selections towards pre-requisite or helpful subjects,” Ms Miller said.

“The Ballarat Careers Expo is a huge event with over 2000 attendees. It’s the culmination of months of planning by the organising committee, assisted by many volunteer helpers, so it’s always great to see the buzz of excitement as it all comes together on the night.

Find the Ballarat Careers Expo on Monday, 19 August from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Ballarat Grammar School, 201 Forest Street Wendouree. Entry is with a gold coin donation.
