FEDERATION TAFE’s new Baking Training Centre opened on Monday at the SMB campus, giving baking apprentice students the opportunity to learn with the latest equipment and technology.

Worth $1.56 million, the facility features three new ovens and state of the art tools, and $840,000 was injected by the State government.

The 130 baking students can now learn skills in artisan breadmaking, and work with steamed, savoury and sweet buns, donuts, Danish pastries, croissants and puddings.

Federation University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Helen Bartlett said the specialist learning space will draw students from further afield.

“The new centre will see Federation TAFE in Ballarat become the training hub for baking apprentices across Victoria.”
