HEAD to the Design Exchange Market next month to discover independent designers, artists and creators.

The event held at the Mining Exchange will feature small business, handmade items and ethical traders.

Goods on offer will include artisan foods, pottery, jewellery, knitwear and more.

“We’ve got quite a lot of new stallholders coming along which is always great to freshen up the event,” said Design Exchange Market founder, Lyndelle Flintoft.

“We are also looking at having kids’ entertainment and on the Saturday night there will be a mulled wine and whisky night.

“People can come and relax.”

Ms Flintoft said the highlight of the event is getting to see local makers.

“I think everyone always enjoys seeing new things and things made by the maker,” she said.

The event will be held at the Mining Exchange next month.

“It’s different to what you see everywhere else.”

The purpose of the event is to encourage people to shop consciously and locally.

“I think it’s more important than ever to be supporting independent artists and makers,” said Ms Flintoft.

“It stops us from buying throw away things like stuff from Kmart that just goes into landfill.”

Stallholders will include Petite Tapers candle dipping, Sophie M jewellery, social enterprise I Am Someone, Nomad Chilli Co small batch hot sauces, knitwear brand The Knitter and the Hound, Meadow Art Collective, 100 per cent fruit alcoholic drinks maker Cheeky Rascal, Koast Furniture, Louie and the Fox children’s clothes, Julie B Ceramics, Heart of Venus metal jewellery and more.

The Design Exchange Market will be on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July. Entry is $5 for teens and adults, or free for children under 13 years of age.
