SOLDIERS Hill Artist Collective and Words Out Loud will present another “ekphrastic” artistic collaboration, They Are Us from Monday, 24 February to Sunday, 5 April.

Showing at The Gallery Lounge at Billy’s Bar on Main Road, the groups are exhibiting a mix of creative writing and visual art.

Twenty writers produced some short fiction and poetry. Each work was then randomly allocated to one of twenty visual artists to inspire them and encourage a response.

These creatives then formed pieces based on the literature which interprets the They Are Us theme broadly and considers generations, strangers, foreigners, aliens, ecology, empathy and cruelty.

Visual works vary with paintings, collages, photographs, woodwork and weaving.

City of Ballarat councillor, Belinda Coates will launch the show at its official opening on Thursday, 27 February at 6.30pm.

An original instrumental musical composition addressing the theme will be performed by Reuben Morgan.

Anyone is welcome to enjoy the opening evening where drinks and nibbles will be supplied. Visit wordsoutloudballarat.com.au/special-events/they-are-us.

SHAC and Words out loud collaborated two years ago on Weathering the Future, presented at the Art Gallery of Ballarat’s Backspace Gallery.

Radmac Office Choice has donated foam core boards to this exhibition so written works can be best displayed.
