EUREKA Cycling raced under blue skies on the Windmill circuit on Sunday, 13 February.

Twenty-nine riders were blow about by a strong northerly wind that saw the bunches ripped apart.

Tim Canny was the lone scratch rider, he caught the second scratch group at the halfway mark of the race and with the extra help started reeling the out-markers in.

Stu Brien provided able support for Canny and they rode through the entire field to claim the lead with six kilometres remaining.

Peter Gunston, who was returning for his first Eureka handicap race since breaking his neck 51 weeks ago, was strong enough to latch onto the duo.

Canny launched his final attack with four kilometres remaining and proved too strong in the tailwind aided finish.

The club takes a short break next week, with many members participating in the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute’s Ballarat Cycle Classic.

Windmill handicap (52.5 Km) results – 1st – Tim Canny (scratch), 2nd – Peter Gunston (5 min), 3rd – Stu Brien (1 min), 4th – James Knipe (9 min), 5th – Peter Canny (5 min). Fastest Time – Tim Canny (scratch) in 1h 20m, ave. 39.6kph.
