GOLFERS from Ballarat have downed Barwon Heads to win the 90th edition of the Warrallie Cup.

The competition, played between Ladies Committee members from each club, took place at Barwon Heads last week.

The visitors came away with the victory 4-3 thanks to captain Julie Carr, Kay Jonhston, Carole Ryan, Sue Howie, Trina Jones,

Vicki Wilson and Di Rogers, who was a fill-in for Jeni Lawrence.

The trophy was presented by Mrs James Robertson – nee Alice Clarke – of Barwon Heads.

First won by Barwon Heads in 1928, the Warrallie Cup has been played annually since then with a pause for the Second World War and two occasions when a wet course meant no matches were possible.

Last week’s win is Ballarat’s fourth in a row and takes the clubs total victories to 39, four behind Barwon Heads on 43.
