CHILDREN aged four to fourteen have the chance to meet their favourite Ballarat Miners players these school holidays.

Ballarat Basketball staff and athletes are leading holiday camps at Selkirk Stadium, and admin officer Amber Bumpstead said all kids are welcome to the skills and games days, whether they’ve never touched a basketball before, or they’re experienced players.

“It’s a massive, fun day,” she said. “We’re incorporating a lot of new skills, drills, and games.

“The kids are grouped by age, and there are two coaches to each group of 20. The kids will enjoy the bonding experience that they get with the players, and we always try to have at least one Miners player with a group.

“Across three courts, we can hold 130 kids, but we’re planning to have all six courts going, so we hope to double those numbers.”

Ballarat Basketball staff are aiming to provide expert instruction from professional coaches, to share training methods, tips on how to be a positive, supportive teammate, to offer prizes, and a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Local Miners players, and the team’s imports, will be attending the camps. Children are required to bring their own named basketball, and organise their own water bottle, lunch and snacks.

The camps will run on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 June, and Thursday 6, and Friday 7 July from 9am to 3pm. The camp price starts at $80 per child, and registrations close on Monday 19 June.
