WITH Ballarat re-entering lockdown recently the Central Highlands Football and Netball Leagues finally announced that they would be abandoning the final series for 2021

A statement released by netball president Natalie Clark said it was not an easy decision to draw to a close the post-season after 2020 was also abandoned.

“I hope that players, parents and club officials understand that this decision did not come lightly and hurts me too,” she said

“Not only as a mother to one who was due to play finals, but as someone who loves to see people play sport.”

The decision by the CHFNL comes as the last local football league to pull the pin on action in 2021.

The CHFL Best and Fairest count is still being finalised and more details are expected to come in the following weeks.

In the football Gordon finished undefeated on top of the ladder with their decisive 11 from 11 record having the clear pundit favourite for a premiership.

The Eagles last senior premiership was 23 years ago in the 1988 season with their faithful having to wait another year to against premiership glory on an aging list that included ex-AFL footballers from Geelong James Kelly and Shannon Byrnes.

In the Central Highlands A-Grade Netball both Buninyong and Hepburn were undefeated at the close of the home and away season with Bombers and Burra fans now having to wait another year for that true clash of the league’s heavyweights.
