Dangerfield backs marquee timeslot

GEELONG star and AFLPA president Patrick Dangerfield has said he’s “very much in favour” of regular Thursday night football going forward.

Thursday night footy returned two weeks ago when Richmond played Port Adelaide at the MCG.

No Thursday night games were scheduled between rounds 6 to 12.

Dangerfield enjoyed playing in the marquee timeslot during his time at Adelaide, but says it’s not going to suit every state.

Gerard Whateley, the host of SEN’s Whateley, asked, “Is your gut feeling that Thursday night footy will be a permanent in the new CBA?”

“I’m very much in favour of it,” Dangerfield replied.

“I think it works really well. The best example I’ve got of Thursday night footy is my time in Adelaide… the city really is alive, and it was brilliant, really embraced by the city.

“We haven’t had too many at the Cats, but certainly at Adelaide it was something that we loved at the time.

“It’s not going to suit every state, but some certainly will really embrace it.

“I’d like to see Thursday night a regular fixture going forward.”

Thursday night games will be played from rounds 13 to 17, with Dangerfield’s Cats host reigning premiers Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium on Thursday night in round 17.
