EUREKA Cycling Club staged criteriums at Victoria Park on Sunday, 25 September in glorious sunshine, however the golden rays did little to mask the cold.

Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was honoured with commemorative medals awarded to the day’s winners.

Division one had the largest field with Jarrod King, Dayne Pearce, Tony Mirabella, Jason Hendry, Darryn Reed, Jason Birch and Dean Wells rearing to go.

Hendry proved the main antagonist, attacking into the wind many times. Just five riders remained for the final two laps, with Hendry setting the pace, leading out the sprint, and blasting away for a solid win over the gallant King.

Division two saw Dennis Shaw, Evan King, Peter Lamb, Mark Hogan, Craig Jenkins, and Peter Livitsanis in a race of parries and feints. Few attacks were made, with most of the field content for a sprint finish.

Lamb provided much of the action with two solo efforts which took some bringing back. The entire field fought out the final sprint, with Jenkins prevailing in a close margin over Livitsanis.

Division three was the smallest field with Geoff Edwards and Roger McMillan going head-to-head. Edwards proved strongest in the strengthening wind, breaking away early for an easy victory.

Thank you to the volunteers corner sweepers Steven Crowe and Julie Connellan, course setup and preparation Roger McMillan, Malcolm Rock and Peter Livitsanis, and race day officials Bill Goldfinch, Graeme Parker and Tim Sinclair.

Queens Medal, Victoria Park Criterium results – Division 1 – 1st – Jason Hendry, 2nd – Jarrod King, 3rd – Dayne Pearce. Division 2 -1st – Craig Jenkins, 2nd – Peter Livitsanis, 3rd – Mark Hogan. Division 3 – 1st – Geoff Edwards, 2nd – Roger McMillan.
