Favourites suffers first loss

DELA Oscar’s has gone down for the first time this season in the Ballarat Netball Association’s premier competition The Athlete’s Foot Cup.

It came at the hands of reigning champion Brown Hill in the best game of the season so far.

The return of Poppy Douglass from illness and a European holiday was pivotal for Brown Hill.

Her shooting combination with Zoe Ottavi set the standard for coach Annie McCartin’s team.

Brown Hill led by four goals after a tense first quarter.

Dela Oscar’s won the next two to trail by a single goal going into the last.

Seventeen-year-old Lydia Jordan was outstanding in the final quarter for Dela, shooting superbly to give her team a chance of snatching the win. But Brown Hill held on to take the game by two.

In the second game Eureka has only just held off Wendouree

There was only one goal in it at the first change, with Wendouree captain Eleisha Phelps showing some of her best form of the season.

The margin grew to eight by the final change as Eureka slowly took control.

Defenders Abbey Wiltshire and Jemma Mirabella were among Eureka’s best as they claimed the game by 13 goals.

The teams have only one minor round to play next Tuesday night before we head into the cut-throat semi-finals.
