North Ballarat 12.8 (8) defeated East Point 7.10 (52)

IN wet conditions, North Ballarat has bounced back in the McDonalds Ballarat Football League with a come from behind victory over fellow premiership contender East Point last Saturday at Mars Stadium.

VFL Listed player at Collingwood, Sam Glover, was the star of the show in his first game for the Roosters in season 2022, kicking four goals and having his hand firmly in the just about every successful North Ballarat attacking foray.

In what was a clash that many pundits expect to see in September, the game was marred on the injury front with Riley Polkinghorne, Jonathan O’Brien and captain, Simon McCartin missing for the home side meaning coach, Brendan McCartney had to dig deep into the well to replace his first-choice midfield.

For Kangas Jake Bridges had his own injury headaches with the absences of Jacob Brown and James Frawley, heightened with the late withdrawal of ex AFL-Footballer Jackson Merrett.

Despite the big names missing, it was a ferocious contested game of football with East Point getting the jump on North Ballarat in the opening term with three first quarter goals from Glover the only thing keeping the Roosters within striking distance at the first break.

From there, conditions deteriorated and the ball got that bit more slippery as the class of North Ballarat came to the forefront with the likes of Ned Nash, Jack Riding and of course, Sam Glover, making the ball look dry as others were finding it to be like a bar of soap.

The victory compiles a great start to the season for North, as they have firmly locked in their place inside the competitions top six.

McCartney expects to welcome back the calvary from injury next week and will be hopeful to retain the services of Glover; however higher honours may await the silky left footer.
