EXPLORE the history of croquet at Ballarat Western Croquet Club’s heritage hoops day.

Members of the community are invited to dress in vintage and heritage inspired outfits such as tweed, velvet, capes, kilts or cricket whites for a game of croquet.

Following the action, there will be morning tea in the heritage club rooms, and players are asked to bring a plate to share.

“It’s just about coming along, having fun and playing a game of croquet,” club secretaryJenny Leviston said.

“If you can wear tweed gear that would be good, and we will have a few games.”

The club’s rooms were built in 1914 and Ms Levison said the open day gave the public an opportunity to see inside them.

“You can just come and have a tour of our club room because like many old buildings in Ballarat, they are not always accessible to the public.

“We thought since it’s been refurbished people might want to come and see them.”

Ms Levison said it is important to reflect through initiatives such as the Ballarat Heritage Festival.

“In Ballarat history is so important.

“It is who we are and we enjoy it.”

The event is at at 204 Ripon Street South on May 24 from 9.30am until 12 noon.

New members welcome and asked to contact the club before the event by emailing [email protected]
