WINDY overcast conditions on the Weatherboard circuit made a tough day of racing for the seventeen Eureka Cycling riders who pinned on race numbers last Sunday.

The four-man Scratch bunch made up Jarrod King, Jason Hendry, Paul Tabbitt and Jason Shipcott was the only group to stay together during the race.

They rode through the field and the last time up the Avenue of Honour they had the lone race leader Danny Whelan squarely in their sights, catching him with just six kilometres remaining.

From that point it was a game of cat and mouse for the scratch riders, with Stu Brien and Darryn Reed from the three-minute group the only other contenders.

Hendry launched a surprise attack on the final climb as everyone expected the big man to wait for a bunch sprint.

Clear over the crest, Hendry held a race winning gap all the way to the chequered flag, with King a few seconds behind and a similar gap to Shipcott and Brien.

Weatherboard handicap (51-kilometre) results: 1st – Jason Hendry (scratch), 2nd – Jarrod King (scratch), 3rd – Jason Shipcott (scratch), 4th – Stu Brien (3 min), 5th – Paul Tabbitt (scratch).

Fastest Time – Jason Hendry (scratch) in 1h 19m 30s ave. 38.5kph
