Hepburn favoured to take flag in CHFL

September 5, 2019 BY

MARS Stadium will host the Bendigo & Rural Bank Central Highlands Football League grand final with Burra walking in as favourites for this epic clash with the Kangaroos.

Hepburn will play at the ground for the first time since they won the premiership in 2017, while Waubra make their long-awaited return to the biggest day of the year since their last flag way back in 2011.

The ‘Roos went through the first 14 rounds undefeated, before dropping their last three regular games, whereas the Burra haven’t lost a match of senior footy since round 11, when they were defeated by last year’s premiers, Beaufort.

These two sides met all the way back in round thee. On that day Waubra held on by 10 points, and James Lukich was sensational with two goals in a best on ground performance.

The Burra have had the extra week of footy compared to their Kanga counterparts, with a comfortable victory over Skipton to kick things off before big upset wins over premiership favourites Buninyong and Newlyn.

The Kangaroos have arguably also had two upset victories on their way to the grand final, with wins over Buninyong and Gordon. Two sides who had the wood over them in the regular home and away season.

This one will come down to the midfield grunt of both teams, with maybe the extra class of 250 gamer, and the Burra’s best ever player, Andy McKay, being enough to drag his side across the line. Prediction – Hepburn by 24 points.
