Home final on the line for Lions

August 22, 2019 BY

Redan v Melton

MATCH of the Round as the Lions host the Melton Bloods this Saturday at the City Oval in the McDonald’s Ballarat Football League. A shock loss to Redan meant there top two aspirations were shunted by the Lake Wendouree while the Bloods were no match for Sebastopol. The equation is simple, a win for Redan is a home final and a loss means they may be forced to travel in the first week to Darley Park. For the Bloods they will still mostly end up fifth or sixth on the ladder but this game has been pinpointed by coach, Aaron Tymms as a vital one for the footy club to prove they’re are truly premiership contenders. Prediction – Redan by under a goal.

Sunbury v Bacchus Marsh

The Marsh finally got back on the winners list with a big victory over the bottom placed Panthers last week but the Lion’s, who are undefeated on the home deck in 2019, will be too tall of task to conquer. Some extra spice in this one with Jarrah Maksymow lining up against ex-Cobra teammates for the first time since making the switch to the Lion’s den, with a finals campaign just a week away the hothead will have to be on his very best behaviour in this one. Prediction – Sunbury Comfortably.

Darley v Ballarat

Fifteen in a row at Darley Park! That was the end results from the Devils come from behind win against minor premiers East Point on the weekend. The Swans played an all-out classic with North Ballarat City, but with this one will determine whether the Devils finish at the either the top, or two, or middle of the pack, you would think they will come out with more to play for. Prediction – Darley by 36 points.

Sebastopol v Lake Wendouree

Only 0.3 of a percent separates Sebas from Darley on the ladder and with every point crucial in this one to determine whether the Kookaburras secure a second chance in the finals or not. The Lakers claimed back-to-back scalps with an impressive victory over Redan on the weekend and will be confident to repeat the dose this weekend against Sebas who they beat in round three footy earlier in the year. James Keeble, Matt Austin and particularly Luke Kiel all looked exceptional in their returns to footy last week and no doubt will have to be at the forefront if Sebas want to hold off a gallant Lakers outfit. Prediction – Sebastopol by 15 points.

Melton South vs. North Ballarat City

Heath Pritchard will go around again as senior coach for the Panthers next season but that is the only thing really newsworthy about this season’s wooden spooners as North look likely to go out big victors to finish 2019.  Prediction – North Ballarat City by 60 points.
