AN exhibition clash between the Ballarat Miners men and the Chinese Taipei national team that was planned for the Minerdome tomorrow night, Friday 1 September, has been cancelled.

Before the cancellation, Ballarat Miners head coach Luke Sunderland said hosting the foreign touring team would have given youth league players a chance to step up.

“They may be in the NBL1 team next season, so this gives them the opportunity to get them integrated with a few of our senior players, see how they all fit, and give them some extended minutes,” he said.

“It’s a game where there’s no pressure, and nothing on the line. It also an opportunity for us to look at some potential new recruits as well.”

The Ballarat Miners youth league players won the 2022 state title, and several of them were set to play tomorrow night, alongside local veteran NBL1 athletes.

“We can take for granted how good the NBL1 league and youth championship are, so it’s great for the local players to go up against foreign teams, and see where they’re at compared to international players.”
