YOUNG goalkeeper Molly Klix has been selected for the 2022 Australian Country under-twenty-one hockey team.

The Ballarat High School year 12 student plays for Altona in the Victorian Premier League, remains a member of the Ducks Hockey Club, and has been part of the Hockey Victoria Under-18 Academy.

Recently competing for Victorian Country at the Australian Country Championships in Western Australia where her team placed third, Klix’ selection became public.

“When we were doing the medal ceremony, they announced the Australian under-21 country sides… and I was lucky enough to have my name called out on the under-21 women’s team,” she said.

“I wasn’t expecting it because I’m young, only 17, and have only played for a few years. I was very happy, but shocked.”

As part of that team, Klix will travel to Indonesia on a hockey tour in January of 2023, playing various national teams from across the world.

She first got into school hockey at BHS in 2018. Originally set to be a field player, her interest quickly shifted.

“I saw the person with all the gear on, and I thought, that looks pretty cool. I decided to try it out, I liked it, continued on with it, and here we are,” Klix said.

“I love the community around hockey. It’s very inclusive, and I enjoy the social and competitive sides to it.”

Former Ballarat High School students Kahlua Smart and Lachie Hansford are also involved in national-level hockey.

Smart will join Klix on the under-21 team, Hansford has made the men’s under-21 side, and Tammy Hansford is on the coaching team of the senior women’s squad.
