Race for Ray

June 26, 2019 BY

EUREKA Cycling Club’s annual Race for Ray was conducted in very cool conditions at Learmonth on Sunday.

The race is in honour of Ray Hodgson, who only discovered cycling during his late sixties after twice defeating cancer.

All proceeds from the day will be donated to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute.

Krehalon Australia kindly provided trophies for the event.

This rendition would be a day for the scratch men. They rode through the entire field to create a large sprint finish – with fifteen riders from four different time groups vying for the prizes.

The scratch men proved dominant, claiming all three positions on the podium.

Results – 1st – Jason Hendry (Scratch), 2nd – Shane Clarke (Scratch), 3rd – Stu Brien (Scratch), 4th – Greg Ley (3 min), 5th – Shaun Martin (11 min). Fastest Time – Jason Hendry (Scratch) in 1h 20m, ave. 39.4 Kph.
