Russell and Warner claim singles titles

THE Ballarat District Bowls Division Men and Ladies Singles finals were played at Buninyong Bowling Club on Sunday, 26 January.

Both games produced some incredible bowls with no clear winner right to the end.

In the end Avenue’s Marie Russell got a one-shot victory over Jenny Harman from City Oval to claim the title, with a final score of 25-24.

In the men’s match Stephen Topp from Sebastopol put up a great fight against fellow club member Ian Warner.

Losing one of the few multiple counts at the wrong time of the game, Topp dropped the one-shot lead he had taking the score to, 23-20.

Warner secured the win on the next end, with the final score being, 25-20.

Both Warner and Russell will go on to represent the region later in the year.
