THE Burra has moved back in the top-six in the McDonalds Ballarat Football League with a comprehensive 89-point victory over the Panthers on Saturday at Marty Busch Reserve.

Spearhead, Michael Powell booted five while eight others joined him joined him on the scoresheet to help hand Melton South another crushing loss, 17.12 (114) to 3.7 (25).

After winning the previous week, many thought the Panthers were half a sniff going into this one, but with Port Melbourne listed player, Dylan Conway a late withdrawal the writing was on the wall before a ball was bounced and the Kookaburras stars were always going to be enough.

Assistant coach, Tony Lockyer was once amongst the best for Sebastopol and in just his third game back recorded ten intercept marks and was the impenetrable wall that Melton South could not get through.

Post-game Lockyer said, “It is always hard to sustain a four quarter effort, but I thought our boys did that for most of the game and yeah capped off with seven goals in the last quarter.”

The game wasn’t as clear cut as the scoreboard suggested though, with Lockyer even noting the frustrating nature of the game and even in such a big win he knew they could do better.

“I think when we had the wind we let ourselves down a little today in terms of how we used the ball and Melton South did a good job off just keeping it off us by going side to side, even though we were well set up in defence.”

All-in-all the win is a massive percentage boost for Sebastopol, going up 20 points and meaning their year really opens up for them and finals is again on the agenda come the pointy end of the season.
