Southside battle as Lions take on ‘Burras

Sebastopol v Redan

SUPER Sunday as the C. E. Brown Reserve hosts the second of the Semi-Finals in the McDonalds Ballarat Football League with the Burra and the Lions contesting a do or die clash. The last time these two sides met was in round 11 with Sebastopol running out strong 39-point victors. Redan was without veteran ruckman Orren Stephenson back then and with the ‘Big O’ close to best on ground in the elimination final victory last week against Darley, it is truly going to be a battle of titans between him and Sebas big man Tobias Thoolen. The Kookaburras will be without several big-name players, but the heart and passion they showed in their first finals appearance in 19 years last week might be just enough to drag them across the line. Prediction – Sebastopol in a thriller.

East Point v Melton

For the third time this season, it is a grand final replay with the Kangas going up against a brave Bloods outfit that overcame a 20-point three quarter time deficit to knock out Sunbury last Sunday. Both sides enter this weekend’s clash at the City Oval with pretty much a clean bill of health despite having their fair share of injury concerns throughout the year. This time last year, it was Melton who defeated East Point in the corresponding fixture and booked their place in the 2018 grand final, and with the Bloods too strong for the ‘Roos last time out at the Eastern Oval, it would be suspected that they very well could repeat history here. Prediction – Melton by 12 points.
