Swans aiming for better than split points after draw

Ballarat v Darley

FINALLY, the Swans got on the board in the McDonalds Ballarat Football League Seniors, but not with the ultimately desired result as they drew with the Lakers in a thriller. Sam James was best of field with three goals and continued to rack up possessions and will be key if Joe Carmody’s men want to have any chance of matching the class that the Devils possess.

Jake Edwards was sent forward late a few weeks ago and followed it up with four goals again last week; the real question will be does Heath Scotland hold his nerve this week or is the Henderson Medallist going to be sent back to the backline.

Prediction – Darley, Edwards to play forward.

 

Sunbury v Melton

THE Lions were gallant in a shootout with the Cobras last weekend, but will be looking for a better output from their stars against last year’s runners up. The Bloods come off the bye and are well shaped to try to go one better this year as they welcome Matthew Denham into the line-up this week to match the firepower of Sunbury’s midfield. Prediction – Melton by 15 points.

 

Redan v East Point

NO doubt match of the round as one plays two in the Ballarat Football Netball League for the first time this season with both undefeated sides looking to skip away from each other on the ladder with a victory. The Kangaroos gave the Panthers a footballing lesson last week, but the lack of intensity in the game could come back to haunt them when taking on Redan at City Oval this Saturday afternoon. A battle between veterans Patrick Britt and Brad Whitaker should be a talking point, as a victory either way in the match-up could utterly be the difference. Prediction – East Point… almost too close to call.

 

Melton South v Lake Wendouree

UTTERLY embarrassing is the only way you can describe the Panthers performance last week against East Point as they failed to even kick one goal for the whole match. Arguably the worst performance seen in the Ballarat Football Netball League in a number of years, it’s truly hard to see where the struggling Panthers go from here as they looked ripe for the picking for another wooden spoon. Prediction – Lake Wendouree by 10 plus goals.
North Ballarat City v Sebastopol

SUNDAY footy at Mars Stadium as both North Ballarat and their archrivals Sebas are desperate to get back on the winners list. Neither side has won since round one and injuries to key players has halted any progress from previous seasons. Since the Kookaburras rebuild from 2015 they have claimed victories over every other team in the competition and a loss to North Ballarat could end their finals aspirations for this year. Prediction – Sebastopol to break the hoodoo.
