A NEW dual-point electronic timing system is being hailed as a game changer by the Ballarat Triathlon Club.

The new system, made possible through combined support from Community Bank Buninyong, the City of Ballarat and the club’s own reserves, is delivering safer, smarter and more inclusive local events for athletes of all levels.

After 20 years with the same system, the new technology is a major step forward.

With dual timing points, the club can offer instant and accurate results, safer course designs particularly for juniors and first-timers, and a stronger event experience that attracts people from across the region.

Ballarat Triathlon Club vice-president and event organiser Molly Voss said the new system also eased the load on volunteers, allowing them to focus on supporting participants instead of managing timekeeping by hand.

“Upgrading from our 20-year-old timing system is a game changer,” she said.

“It means we can keep offering high-quality, low-cost local events and grow participation in triathlon.

“Thanks to Community Bank Buninyong’s support, we’re excited to welcome more people to our sport.”

The club is already seeing results and is inviting newcomers to the event on Sunday 1 February at Lake Esmond.

The event, which includes triathlon and duathlon (cycle and run) is open to everyone from seasoned triathletes to those just keen to have a go, and forms part of the Lake Esmond Championship Series.
