STRONG winds featured on the short, fortytwo-kilometre handicap which was race four of the Winter Aggregate Race Series.

The out and back circuit saw much climbing in both directions, yet the homeward leg was much easier with the tail wind virtually pushing riders up the hills.

Peter Livitsanis, Dan Whelan and Brian Lee rode superbly to maintain their advantage over the field. The Scratch riders – Shane Clarke and Tim Canny – were brilliant in defeat and just missed taking the victory.

Post-race, members of the Glendaruel Fire Brigade were on hand to receive a $400 cheque from Eureka Cycling Club. Each year the cycling club stages a race where all takings are donated to a local community group.

Captain Jim Robertson explained the brigade was close to securing an ultralight vehicle for accessing difficult areas.

Generous donations from local landowners and community groups have all but assured the Glendaruel CFA will be able to attain the vital vehicle.

Race results – 1st – Peter Livitsanis (17 min), 2nd – Dan Whelan (17 min), 3rd – Shane Clarke (scratch), 4th – Tim Canny (scratch), 5th – Brian Lee (17 min). Fastest time – Shane Clarke (scratch) in 1h 4m 30s, ave. 38.9 Kph.
