BALLARAT Grammar student Sigrid Black has recently returned from France and Denmark where she took part in mounted games competitions.

Mounted games are races and challenges which are completed on horseback and require athletic ability, riding skills, and hand-eye coordination.

“I enjoy making friendships across the world because you can play it across the world not only in Australia,” Black said.

“It was amazing going to Europe and it was just a cool, great time over there meeting a lot of new friends and riding different horses.”

In Denmark, Black took part in the International Mounted Games World Pairs where her and her partner finished second after meeting on the day of the competition.

“I was really scared that she wouldn’t speak English, and she didn’t speak English so I couldn’t really communicate with her,” she said.

“We had her trainer on the field and she could speak her language to him which sort of helped.”

Black then rode at the World Individual Competition in France where she ended up placing second in the world.

Following these competitions, Black is now ranked number nine globally but has hopes of becoming a jockey.

“I’d love to keep doing this but I’d like to be a jockey as well,” she said.
